Motorboat Tour from Cala Gonone with Transfer to the Bue Marino Caves
A full-day voyage along Sardinia's most celebrated coastline, visiting hidden coves, crystalline waters, and legendary sea caves.
This Gulf of Orosei motorboat tour takes you on an eight-hour journey along one of the most dramatic and unspoiled stretches of Mediterranean coastline. Departing from Cala Gonone, you will visit legendary beaches, dramatic caves, and secluded coves that are otherwise accessible only by sea.
The east coast of Sardinia is widely regarded as one of Europe's most pristine coastal environments, shaped by millennia of limestone erosion and largely protected from road access. The Gulf of Orosei combines towering white cliffs, juniper-scented maquis, and water so transparent it reads as pale turquoise from above and deep cobalt in the channels.
Your vessel is a 22-metre motorboat equipped with a shaded lower deck, an open upper deck, and an onboard bar. The boat comfortably seats up to 180 passengers across two decks and is heated for cooler months, making it a practical choice in any season. An expert guide provides commentary in multiple languages throughout the journey.
The tour is rated easy and is suitable for families with children. Between two and three beach stops are included, giving passengers genuine swimming and snorkelling time rather than a brief glimpse from the water.
Tour Highlights
Swimming stops at Cala Mariolu, one of the most photographed beaches on the Sardinian coast, known for its white pebbles and layered turquoise water.
Optional guided visit to the Bue Marino Caves, a stalactite and stalagmite cave system that was once home to Mediterranean monk seals.
Photo stop in front of Cala Goloritzè, a UNESCO-recognised natural monument featuring a natural arch and a soaring limestone pinnacle above the shore.
Beach time at Cala Luna, a crescent-shaped bay framed by caves and seasonally dry riverbeds, accessible only by sea or a long mountain trail.
Multilingual expert commentary covering the geology, ecology, and cultural history of the Gulf of Orosei throughout the eight-hour route.
A comfortable, modern motorboat with onboard bar, shaded seating for 100 on the lower deck, and open-air seating for 80 on the upper deck.
A family-friendly format with easy boarding, calm coastal waters, and stops suited to swimmers of all ability levels including young children.
Itinerary
The tour departs from the port of Cala Gonone, a small coastal town set within the Gennargentu National Park. You board the motorboat, settle onto the lower or upper deck, and begin heading south along the limestone cliffs of the Gulf of Orosei.
The first major stop is the area surrounding Cala Luna and the Bue Marino Caves. Cala Luna is a broad sandy bay with cave formations at its southern edge. Visitors who have pre-purchased cave tickets join the guided tour of the Bue Marino Caves at this point; others enjoy the beach.
The route continues south to Cala Mariolu, celebrated for its white and pink pebble beach and exceptional water clarity. Nearby Cala Gabbiani offers a quieter alternative cove for swimming. Two to three beach stops are made across this section of the journey.
Cala Sisine is a wide, sandy beach at the mouth of a valley carved by a seasonal river, surrounded by dense Mediterranean scrubland. Cala Biriola is a smaller, more secluded cove in the same stretch of coast. Both offer clear water and a sense of genuine remoteness.
The boat slows for a photo stop in front of Cala Goloritzè, a site protected under UNESCO and accessible on foot only via a demanding mountain trail. The limestone arch and the 143-metre spire of rock rising above the beach are visible clearly from the water. Mooring at this location is not permitted.
The motorboat returns north along the coast to the port of Cala Gonone, completing the eight-hour circuit. The exact timing of the return depends on weather and sea conditions on the day.
