Secret Trails of Santo Antão and São Vicente Discovery Tours
Volcanic craters, green valleys, coastal cliffs, and island culture across two of Cape Verde's most rewarding islands.
This Santo Antão and São Vicente hiking tour takes travelers through some of the Atlantic's most dramatic island landscapes, combining active trekking days with cultural exploration and genuine moments of rest along the way.
Santo Antão rewards those willing to move through it on foot. The island's interior holds a volcanic crater above 1,100 meters, terraced valleys thick with tropical vegetation, and stone paths connecting small farming communities that have changed little over generations.
São Vicente offers a different kind of discovery. Mindelo, its capital, is considered one of the most culturally vibrant cities in the archipelago, shaped by music, trade, and a population known throughout Cape Verde for its warmth and openness.
Together, the two islands provide a well-rounded experience that balances physical challenge with cultural depth, moving at a pace that allows genuine engagement with the places and people encountered along the route.
Tour Highlights
Hike from the rim of the Paúl Volcano Crater at over 1,100 meters, descending through one of the greenest valleys in the archipelago.
Walk the cliffside trail from Ponta do Sol to Fontainhas, a village listed by National Geographic among the ten most scenic in the world.
Pass through sugar cane fields, banana plantations, and groves of mango, avocado, breadfruit, and coconut on the valley floor trails.
Visit a local distillery and taste grogue, the traditional Cape Verdean rum produced from freshly pressed sugar cane during the seasonal harvest.
Explore Sinagoga, an extinct Jewish village on Santo Antão that still preserves its historical character and architectural remnants.
Discover Mindelo's cultural landmarks including the Cesária Évora Museum, the municipal market, and the panoramic viewpoint at Fortin.
Relax at Laginha Beach and explore the shallow lagoons of Baía das Gatas on São Vicente's eastern coast.
