This tour is based in Syracuse, in the southeastern corner of Sicily, Italy, and covers two cities located within the Val di Noto zone. Noto lies approximately 32 kilometers southwest of Syracuse and is the finest surviving example of late baroque urban planning in the Mediterranean. Syracuse, one of the most important cities of the ancient Greek world, sits on the Ionian coast and its island district of Ortigia forms one of the oldest continuously inhabited urban sites in Europe. Both cities are part of the Late Baroque Towns of the Val di Noto, a UNESCO World Heritage cluster inscribed in 2002 and 2005. The region is well connected by road and is typically visited from the city of Catania or from resorts along the southeastern Sicilian coast such as Avola, Ispica, and Marina di Ragusa.
