The State of Amazonas is the largest federal state of Brazil, covering approximately 1.57 million square kilometers in the northwest of the country. It borders Venezuela, Colombia, and Peru, and contains the largest continuous tract of tropical rainforest on Earth. The state capital, Manaus, sits at the confluence of the Rio Negro and the Solimoes River and serves as the primary logistical hub for travel across the entire region. Amazonas falls within the Amazon Basin hydrological system and is administered under the Northern Region of Brazil.
