Albufeira is located on the central Algarve coast of southern Portugal, approximately 40 kilometres west of Faro International Airport. The town sits within the Faro District and is administered by the Municipality of Albufeira, which covers an area of roughly 140 square kilometres. The coastline here is characterised by Jurassic-era sandstone and limestone formations that erosion has sculpted into the arches, stacks, and sea caves for which the region is internationally known.
