          Rouen is the historic capital of the Seine-Maritime department in northern France, situated on the River Seine approximately 130 kilometres northwest of Paris in the Normandy region. The city served as the capital of the Duchy of Normandy and played a pivotal role in medieval European history, including the trial and execution of Joan of Arc in 1431. Its urban fabric includes one of the most intact concentrations of medieval timber-framed architecture in France, alongside major Gothic monuments recognised as UNESCO-level heritage assets.
