Gjirokaster is a UNESCO World Heritage city located in the Gjirokastra region of southern Albania, approximately 232 km south of Tirana and 60 km north of the Greek border. The city is renowned for its exceptionally preserved Ottoman-era architecture, including a hilltop fortress and a dense concentration of multi-storey stone tower houses. It serves as a cultural and historical anchor for the surrounding Drino Valley and is within day-trip range of major natural and archaeological sites including Butrint and the Blue Eye Spring.
