Solar Eclipse and Whale Watching Boat Cruise in Ísafjarðardjúp
Where celestial wonder meets the wild waters of the Westfjords
This three-hour solar eclipse whale watching cruise takes you into the sweeping fjord of Ísafjarðardjúp, one of Iceland's most remote and wildlife-rich stretches of water, to witness two of nature's most compelling spectacles at once.
As the moon's shadow passes across the sun and the sky dims over the fjord, an expert guide and captain position the vessel at the optimal viewing point to capture the corona in full. The stillness that accompanies totality makes the surrounding landscape feel entirely transformed.
Between eclipse observation, the fjord offers genuine opportunities to spot whales moving through its cold, nutrient-dense waters. Seabirds are a constant presence overhead, and the dramatic mountain ridges lining the fjord provide a backdrop that few places on Earth can match.

Itinerary
The tour begins at the boat, located across from Borea's gear storage at Mávagarður in Ísafjörður. A guide wearing the Borea logo will be waiting to greet participants and assist with boarding.
The vessel heads out into the broad expanse of Ísafjarðardjúp, one of Iceland's largest fjords. The guide provides context on the fjord's ecology, the surrounding landscape, and what to expect from the eclipse.
While cruising the fjord, the guide and captain scan the water for whale activity. Seabirds are observed throughout, and the guide identifies species along the way.
The captain positions the vessel at the location judged optimal for the eclipse. Passengers watch from the deck as the moon passes in front of the sun and the corona becomes visible against the darkened sky.
After the eclipse, the boat heads back to base in Ísafjörður. The return journey follows the fjord coastline, offering final opportunities to observe wildlife and scenery.
