E-Bike in the Backroads of Cascais and Sintra
Pedal through pine forests, hilltop convents, and Atlantic coastline on a guided electric bike adventure from Lisbon.
This Cascais and Sintra e-bike tour takes a small group of up to five riders along quiet rural paths, through working farmland, and up into the forested hills of Sintra, finishing along one of Portugal's most dramatic stretches of Atlantic coast.
The route is designed to keep you off busy roads and away from tourist crowds. Expect to pass sheep grazing in fields, horses in paddocks, and neatly tended vegetable gardens that give a genuine picture of local rural life between two of Portugal's most visited regions.
Electric assistance means the uphill sections — including the climb to Peninha — remain manageable for riders of varying fitness levels. The difficulty rating is easy, making this a suitable outing for those who cycle occasionally rather than regularly.
Families travelling with young children are welcome. A covered bike trailer with suspension and reclinable seats can accommodate infants and children from birth to six years old, offering protection from wind and rain when conditions require it.

Itinerary
The tour begins at Cascais Market, accessible by train from Lisbon. After a brief introduction and bike fitting, the group sets off along the first quiet backroad section heading toward the Sintra hills.
The route passes through an authentic rural corridor complete with sheep, horses, and working vegetable gardens. Quinta do Piso marks a midpoint before the ascent into the Sintra Forest begins.
Electric assistance supports the climb through dense woodland to Peninha, a former monastery sitting high above the surrounding landscape. The 360-degree viewpoint here is considered the finest panoramic position in the area.
The group descends to Guincho Beach, a wide Atlantic shoreline backed by sand dunes. This is the designated stop for a leisurely lunch, not included in the tour price, at restaurants near the beach.
Riding east along the coast, the group stops at Boca do Inferno, a sea cave and rock arch formation carved by Atlantic waves. The route continues into Cascais Old Town before the return to the starting point.
