Lovely Island Hurghada: Snorkeling and Nature at Abu Monkar
Turquoise waters, coral reefs, and mangrove shores await on this compact Red Sea island escape.
A short boat ride from Hurghada leads to Abu Monkar Island, a natural sanctuary where crystalline shallows, mangrove-lined lakes, and thriving coral gardens come together in a single, unhurried morning on the Red Sea.
The island is notably approachable for travelers of all backgrounds. No prior diving certification is required, and the calm, transparent water makes it straightforward to observe the reef and its residents from the surface.
Beyond the water, the island itself rewards exploration. A sheltered lake fringed by mangrove trees draws a variety of sea birds, while the beach is scattered with sea snails and natural marine textures that reflect the area's ecological character.
The overall pace is relaxed and the setting is genuine. Abu Monkar receives far fewer visitors than Hurghada's busier offshore spots, preserving a quieter atmosphere that is increasingly rare along this stretch of the Egyptian coast.

Itinerary
The excursion begins in the morning with a boat departure from the Hurghada shoreline. Guests settle in as the vessel heads southeast across the Red Sea toward Abu Monkar Island.
After approximately 45 minutes on the water, the boat reaches the island. First impressions include the notably clear, shallow water and the natural beach scattered with sea snails.
Guests enter the water to snorkel above the coral reef. The high transparency of the water allows clear visibility of coral formations and the fish and other creatures that inhabit them.
Time is set aside to walk the island and visit the interior lake bordered by mangrove trees. The area attracts various sea birds, making it a worthwhile stop for those interested in coastal ecosystems.
The group boards the boat for the return crossing to Hurghada, completing the three-hour excursion. Guests are brought back to the original departure point.
