Balkan Experience: 7 Countries in 14 Days
From Belgrade to the Adriatic and back — discover the soul of the Balkans one border at a time.
The Balkan Experience 7 Countries in 14 Days is a carefully structured small-group journey that moves through Serbia, Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Albania, Montenegro, Croatia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina in two weeks. Expert guides, hotel accommodation, transport, and entrance fees are all included so travelers can focus entirely on what they see and experience. The route is rated easy, making it accessible to a wide range of travelers.
Few regions in Europe pack as much cultural, historical, and geographical variety into such a compact area as the Balkans. This itinerary visits Roman fortresses, Ottoman bazaars, Venetian coastal towns, and UNESCO-listed medieval bridges within a single continuous journey. The contrast between destinations — from Sofia's neoclassical boulevards to Ohrid's lakeside cobblestones — is one of the defining qualities of this route.
The tour begins and ends in Belgrade, giving travelers a logical gateway through the region. Each overnight stop is chosen to balance structured sightseeing with genuine free time, allowing independent exploration of local restaurants, markets, and neighborhoods. The small-group format keeps the experience personal and flexible without sacrificing the convenience of guided logistics.
Beyond the well-known highlights, the itinerary deliberately includes destinations that remain off the mainstream tourist circuit. Trebinje in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Elbasan in Albania, and the Sargan Eight railway in western Serbia are among the stops that reward curious travelers with authentic encounters rarely found in larger tour formats.

Itinerary Overview
Arrive in Belgrade and settle in with an airport meet-and-greet. Day two covers the Belgrade Fortress, New Belgrade's modernist architecture, the Zemun riverside quarter, and Saint Sava Temple. Day three takes the group north to Sremski Karlovci for wine tasting and on to Novi Sad, including the Petrovaradin Fortress and the pedestrian Zmaj Jovina zone.
Day four passes through Nis — birthplace of Constantine the Great — stopping at the Skull Tower and the Red Cross Concentration Camp museum before crossing into Bulgaria and arriving in Sofia. Day five opens with a walking tour of Sofia's Serdica ruins, St. Alexander Nevski Cathedral, and the National Theatre before crossing into North Macedonia for a guided walk of Skopje's Macedonia Square, the Stone Bridge, and the Ottoman Old Town.
Day six stops at Matka Canyon for a one-hour boat ride before continuing to Ohrid, where the hilltop Church of St. John at Kaneo, Samuel Fortress, and the Roman amphitheater form the walking tour. Day seven crosses into Albania via Elbasan and arrives in Tirana for a city tour including the Et'hem Bey Mosque and an ancient Roman mosaic. Day eight follows the Adriatic coast through Shkoder and its Rozafa Fortress into Montenegro, ending in Budva.
Day nine explores the Bay of Kotor, with stops in Perast, a boat ride to Our Lady of the Rocks, and a guided walking tour of Kotor's medieval walled city. Day ten crosses into Croatia for a guided tour of Dubrovnik's Old Town — Rector's Palace, Sponza Palace, and the city walls — before ending the evening in Trebinje, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Day eleven visits the Ottoman tekke at Blagaj and the UNESCO-listed Old Bridge in Mostar before arriving in Sarajevo. Day twelve explores Sarajevo's Bascarsija bazaar, the Gazi Husrev-bey Mosque, the 1984 Olympic stadium, and the Sarajevo Roses memorials before heading east to Visegrad and the Mehmed Pasa Sokolovic Bridge, then south to Zlatibor mountain.
