You arrive at the monumental hilltop complex where the Alcazaba entrance stands beside the Royal Collegiate Church of Santa Maria la Mayor. Founded with the support of Bishop Diego Ramirez de Villaescusa, the collegiate church is one of the most significant religious monuments in the city.
The Arch of the Giants, commissioned in 1585, frames the entrance to the former Muslim fortress with a wall nearly 2 meters thick. Just steps away, the Mirador de las Almenillas offers what many consider the most striking panoramic view in Antequera.
Plaza San Sebastian, created by royal decree of Queen Juana la Loca in 1508, anchors the historic center with elegant architecture. Nearby, the Town Hall conceals historical depth behind a restrained facade, and Coso Viejo Square traces its origins to the 16th-century need to expand the urban core around San Sebastian.
