Amalfi Coast and Positano Day Tour
Where dramatic cliffs meet turquoise waters along Italy's most celebrated shoreline.
This full-day Amalfi Coast small group tour takes you from Rome or Naples to two of southern Italy's most iconic coastal destinations, combining comfortable high-speed rail travel with scenic minivan transfers along the cliffside roads.
The journey unfolds across Positano and Amalfi, two villages that have shaped the image of the Italian Mediterranean coast for generations. Each stop offers unstructured free time, allowing you to absorb the atmosphere at your own rhythm rather than following a rigid schedule.
Traveling in a small group means fewer passengers per vehicle, more flexibility at each destination, and a less rushed experience overall. The route between Naples and the coast follows some of the most visually striking coastal roads in Europe.
This tour is graded Easy, making it suitable for most travelers, though the terrain in both Positano and Amalfi includes steps and uneven surfaces typical of historic Italian villages.
Tour Highlights
Travel from Rome to Naples aboard a high-speed train, then continue by air-conditioned minivan along the scenic Amalfi coastal roads.
Explore Positano, the layered clifftop village known for its pebble beach, narrow lanes, and views across the Tyrrhenian Sea.
Visit Amalfi and its 9th-century cathedral, one of the most significant examples of Arab-Norman architecture on the southern Italian coast.
Enjoy free time at both villages to wander independently, shop, swim, or stop for a meal without a guided group holding you to a fixed pace.
Travel in a small group with an experienced local driver, keeping the experience more personal than a standard large-coach excursion.
Flexible departure options from Rome or Naples mean the tour adapts to your base city without requiring additional repositioning travel.
Itinerary
Guests departing from Rome board the high-speed train at Roma Termini station. Those joining from Naples meet the local driver directly at the designated point inside Naples train station, near platform 23.
From Naples, the group boards an air-conditioned minivan for the transfer along the coastal road. The drive itself offers continuous views of the cliffs, bays, and Mediterranean vegetation characteristic of this stretch of coastline.
The first stop is Positano, where you have unguided free time to explore. Options include walking the stepped lanes lined with local shops, relaxing or swimming at the pebble beach, or sitting at one of the seafront cafes.
The group continues to Amalfi, the historic maritime republic that gives the coast its name. The Amalfi Cathedral, standing at the top of a broad staircase in the main piazza, is the focal point, alongside the surrounding medieval architecture and waterfront.
After free time in Amalfi, the minivan returns the group to Naples. Guests from Rome then board the return high-speed train back to Roma Termini, concluding the day trip.
