Departing from your Cairo hotel, the drive takes you to Alexandria on Egypt's Mediterranean coast. Morning visits include the Roman Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, a 2nd-century AD burial site carved into rock, and the Pompey Pillar, a monumental granite column erected in honor of Emperor Diocletian.

The afternoon covers the Library of Alexandria, a modern institution built on the site of the ancient library, and the Fort of Qaitbay, a 15th-century coastal fortress constructed where the ancient Pharos lighthouse once stood. You return to your Cairo hotel by evening.
