Day-by-Day Itinerary
Your guide meets you at your hotel and drives to the Giza Plateau, where you visit the Great Pyramid of Khufu, the Pyramid of Khafre, and the western panorama viewpoint. A camel ride is included at the panorama site. After lunch at a local restaurant, the tour continues to the Valley Temple adjacent to the Great Sphinx, followed by an optional stop at a Papyrus Institute.
The afternoon takes you to Saqqara to visit the Step Pyramid complex of King Djoser, the Pyramid of King Teti with its interior hieroglyphic inscriptions, and decorated Old Kingdom tombs approximately 4,500 years old. The day concludes at the Memphis Open Air Museum, which holds a colossal statue of Ramses II and a sphinx figure associated with Queen Hatshepsut.
The morning begins at the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities, where your guide leads you through royal mummies, ancient jewelry, and monumental sculptures. The tour then moves into Coptic Cairo, visiting the Hanging Church and the Ben Ezra Synagogue, two landmarks that reflect the district's multi-faith heritage spanning several centuries.
After lunch featuring local Egyptian cuisine, the afternoon covers Islamic Cairo along Al-Muizz Street, one of the best-preserved medieval streetscapes in the Arab world. The day ends at Khan El Khalili market, where carved wooden facades and domed architecture surround the historic bazaar lanes.
Departing from your Cairo hotel, the drive takes you to Alexandria on Egypt's Mediterranean coast. Morning visits include the Roman Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, a 2nd-century AD burial site carved into rock, and the Pompey Pillar, a monumental granite column erected in honor of Emperor Diocletian.
The afternoon covers the Library of Alexandria, a modern institution built on the site of the ancient library, and the Fort of Qaitbay, a 15th-century coastal fortress constructed where the ancient Pharos lighthouse once stood. You return to your Cairo hotel by evening.
The final day heads southwest to Fayoum. The first stop is Wadi El Rayan National Park, known for its natural waterfalls and lower lake ecosystem, followed by a visit to the saltwater Lake Qarun, the third-largest lake in Egypt and a significant habitat for migratory bird species.
A 4x4 desert drive through open sand dunes leads to Wadi Al Hitan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site containing fossilized whale skeletons and other marine creatures from 40 million years ago. The day includes a lunch stop and tea at a Bedouin desert camp, with free time for sandboarding at Gabal Al Medawara before returning to Cairo.
