It begins and ends in Hurghada, a coastal city on the western shore of the Red Sea in the Eastern Desert of Egypt, known for its coral reefs and all-inclusive beach resorts. The itinerary then moves inland to Luxor (ancient Thebes), located approximately 670 km south of Cairo on the east bank of the Nile in Upper Egypt, home to the world's largest open-air museum including Karnak Temple and the Valley of the Kings on the West Bank. From Luxor, travelers sail south by Nile cruise through Edfu — site of the best-preserved Ptolemaic temple in Egypt — and Kom Ombo, before reaching Aswan near the first cataract of the Nile, close to the Sudanese border. Aswan is the gateway to Nubian culture, the Philae Temple complex, and the optional Abu Simbel temples further south. The tour concludes with a domestic flight to Cairo, Egypt's capital and largest city, situated at the apex of the Nile Delta in northern Egypt. Cairo encompasses the Giza Plateau on its southwestern edge, the medieval Islamic quarter of Khan el-Khalili, and the Coptic district of Old Cairo.
