Pompeii and Herculaneum from Naples
Two ancient Roman cities, one unforgettable journey through history
A visit to Pompeii and Herculaneum offers one of the most compelling encounters with Roman civilization available anywhere in the world, bringing two cities frozen in time directly into view across a single full-day excursion from Naples.
Pompeii was a thriving commercial hub with roughly 11,000 residents when Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD. In a matter of hours, volcanic ash buried the city entirely, preserving streets, homes, temples, and everyday objects in extraordinary detail for nearly seventeen centuries.
Herculaneum tells a different story. A quieter residential settlement of around 5,000 people favored by aristocrats and intellectuals, it was submerged under a far deeper layer of volcanic material, which paradoxically protected organic matter including the wooden furnishings and scrolls found at the Villa dei Papiri. The two sites complement each other in ways that make visiting both far more rewarding than seeing either alone.
Excavations began under Bourbon rule in 1748, and the discoveries that followed had a profound influence on neoclassical art and architecture across Europe. Today, both sites carry UNESCO World Heritage status and draw visitors from across the globe.

Itinerary
The tour departs from the Pic Nic bar kiosk at Molo Beverello, Naples port. From there, transportation takes the group directly toward the first archaeological site of the day.
Upon arrival, a tour assistant will be on hand to orient the group before your independent visit begins. Pompeii offers an expansive network of excavated streets, homes, temples, bathhouses, and public squares to explore at your own pace.
After the Pompeii visit concludes, there is a free time break to have lunch independently. Restaurants and cafes are available near the site entrance. Lunch costs are not included in the tour price.
The group then travels to Herculaneum, where approximately one hour and thirty minutes are allocated for an independent visit. The site is more compact than Pompeii but exceptionally well preserved, with multi-story structures and organic materials rarely found at other Roman sites.
After the Herculaneum visit, transportation returns the group to the original departure point at Naples port, concluding the full-day excursion.
