Portmeirion, Castles and Snowdonia Tour
Castles, an Italian village, and the mountains of Snowdonia — all in one unforgettable Welsh day out.
This Portmeirion and Snowdonia day tour takes you across some of the most scenically diverse and historically layered landscapes in Wales. From medieval fortresses to a pastel-coloured coastal village modelled on the Italian Riviera, every stop offers something genuinely unexpected.
Departing from Llandudno Train Station, your guide leads you on a route that winds through the Great Orme headland, the walled town of Conwy, the UNESCO-listed streets of Caernarfon, and the dramatic passes of Snowdonia National Park. The journey is designed for easy participation, with short walks and well-paced stops throughout.
Local stories, myths, and historical context are woven into each part of the tour, giving depth to what you see beyond the photographs. Whether you are visiting Wales for the first time or returning to discover more, this itinerary covers a remarkable range within a single day.

Visit the Ugly House, a quirky rustic stone cottage in the Snowdonia foothills that surprises every visitor who sees it in person.
Itinerary
The tour begins at Llandudno Train Station before boarding the minibus for the Great Orme headland. The one-way coastal road offers panoramic views of the sea and mountain, and passengers may spot the famous Kashmiri goats that became an international story during the 2020 lockdown period.
A 45-minute stop in the walled town of Conwy gives you time to photograph the imposing castle from multiple angles and explore the historic estuary setting. Conwy is one of the best-preserved medieval fortified towns in Europe.
Your guide leads you through Caernarfon Castle, a World Heritage Site built by Edward I, where wall walks and twin-towered gatehouses offer commanding views over the Menai Strait. The surrounding town retains its narrow historic streets and a recently redeveloped waterfront worth exploring on foot.
The tour visits Portmeirion, the privately owned Italianate village designed by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis between 1925 and 1975. The site includes gardens, cafes, a restaurant, and a series of architectural follies arranged around a central piazza above the estuary.
The return journey passes through the Nant Gwynant pass, one of the most scenic valleys in Snowdonia National Park, with a viewpoint stop overlooking Snowdon. A brief pause at the Ugly House, a traditional dry-stone cottage near Betws-y-Coed, adds a curious and charming interlude.
The final stops include Swallow Falls, one of the most visited natural features in Snowdonia, and the historic riverside tearoom of Tu-Hwnt-I'r Bont, reportedly the second most photographed location in the national park. Both stops offer an ideal close to the day before returning to Llandudno.
