Bestselling Wine Tour, Tasting Experience & Skywalk 4x4 Adventure
Cliffs, valleys, vineyards, and six local wines — all from the back of a 4x4.
This Madeira wine and 4x4 adventure tour takes you through some of the island's most dramatic scenery, from the towering cliffs of Cabo Girão to the tranquil Serra de Água valley, before arriving at a celebrated winery for an authentic tasting experience.
Unlike large coach tours, this experience is intentionally small-scale, giving participants room to absorb the landscape without the noise of a crowd. The route winds through fishing villages, terraced hillsides, and mountain roads that most visitors never reach.
At Quinta Barbusano, a guided tour of the winery is followed by a seated tasting of six table wines, each paired with toasted cheese. The combination of scenery, culture, and flavor makes this one of the more complete half-day options available on the island.
The 4x4 format is central to the experience, allowing access to hidden viewpoints and narrow rural tracks that a standard vehicle could not navigate. This is a tour designed for travelers who want context alongside comfort.

Itinerary
The tour begins along the southwestern coast, passing through the historic fishing village of Câmara de Lobos. From there, the route continues to Cabo Girão, where a glass-floored skywalk offers vertiginous views over sheer cliffs dropping into the Atlantic.
Continuing west, the group passes through Campanário — a quiet village framed by coastal mountain scenery — before reaching Ribeira Brava. This southern town sits at the mouth of a river valley and features a pebble beach and a traditional church in its center.
The 4x4 climbs inland into the Serra de Água valley, a peaceful mountain parish surrounded by terraced fields and waterfalls. The Encumeada viewpoint offers panoramic views across both the north and south coasts of the island on clear days.
Descending toward the northern coast, the tour reaches São Vicente, a village known for its volcanic geology and traditional architecture. The contrast between the green interior and the rugged Atlantic shoreline is particularly striking from this vantage point.
The final stop is Quinta Barbusano, where a guided tour introduces visitors to the estate's winemaking process and heritage. This is followed by a seated tasting of six wine varieties, each accompanied by toasted cheese.
