Skywalk, Vineyards, Landscapes and 4x4 Experience in Madeira
From glass-floor cliffs to vineyard valleys and colourful fishing harbours, a half-day route through Madeira's most striking terrain.
The Madeira Skywalk and Vineyard Tour combines one of Europe's most vertiginous coastal viewpoints with fertile agricultural fields, ancient levada-fed vineyards, and panoramic mountain passes — all within a comfortable 3.5-hour 4x4 journey suitable for most fitness levels.
The route begins at the cultivated fields of Ribeira da Alforra, where banana plants, vegetables, and fruit trees line the terraced landscape. From there, visitors step onto the glass-floor skywalk at Cabo Girão, suspended above a near-vertical cliff face that plunges more than 500 metres into the Atlantic Ocean.
Continuing inland, the tour winds through forest tracks to a pair of high-altitude viewpoints overlooking Curral das Freiras, one of Madeira's most secluded valleys. The return leg passes through the grape-growing parish of Estreito de Câmara de Lobos before descending to the seaside village of Câmara de Lobos, known for its fishing heritage and its role as a muse for Winston Churchill.

Itinerary
The tour opens at the cultivated plots of Ribeira da Alforra, where banana plants, vegetables, and tropical fruit trees grow across layered terraces. This introduction to Madeiran agriculture sets the context for the island's relationship with its land.
At 580 metres above the Atlantic, the glass-floor skywalk at Cabo Girão offers an unobstructed view straight down the cliff face and out across the ocean. The near-vertical drop of over 500 metres makes this one of the most dramatic coastal vantage points in Europe.
Located approximately 1,000 metres above sea level, Boca da Corrida provides sweeping views over the valley of Curral das Freiras, Eira do Serrado, and the central massif peaks. Boca dos Namorados adds a direct overhead perspective of the picturesque village tucked within the valley below.
This elevated parish is central to Madeira wine production, with traditional levadas still channelling water from the mountains to the vine-covered slopes. The landscape reflects centuries of agricultural practice shaped by the island's terrain.
The tour concludes at this seaside village, where brightly painted fishing boats sit in the bay and the waterfront carries the legacy of a working maritime community. Câmara de Lobos famously provided the scenery that Winston Churchill captured in several of his paintings, some of which are displayed at his former home in Kent, England.
