Canyoning in the Rainforest
Descend waterfalls, traverse natural slides, and discover the hidden side of the Canary Islands on foot and in the water.
Canyoning in the Canary Islands is an immersive outdoor pursuit that takes participants through volcanic ravines, ancient Laurisilva forest, and cascading waterfalls along a natural canyon route. This four-hour experience blends walking, jumping, climbing, and abseiling into a single guided adventure. It is designed for adults and children alike, with full safety equipment provided throughout.
Canyoning involves descending a ravine or canyon by following the course of a natural watercourse. Participants combine a range of physical techniques including scrambling over rocks, sliding down natural chutes, leaping into plunge pools, and rappelling down cliff faces using a harness and rope system. The terrain changes constantly, which keeps the experience engaging from start to finish.
The route passes through a Laurisilva forest, a UNESCO-recognised ecosystem of ancient laurel woodland found on the Macaronesian islands. These dense, mist-covered forests shelter rare flora and create a dramatic natural backdrop for the descent. Reaching these locations on foot would otherwise require significant backcountry experience, making the guided format a practical gateway to rarely visited terrain.
Guides leading the activity are certified specialists who maintain safety standards throughout each section of the canyon. The group pace is managed to accommodate varying fitness levels, and all technical equipment is fitted and checked before entry into the water. A 45-minute uphill walk at the start forms part of the overall four-to-five-hour duration.

What to Expect
The group meets at the designated access point where guides distribute and fit all personal protective equipment. Wetsuits, helmets, harnesses, carabiners, and belay devices are checked individually before the group sets off.
A 45-minute hike through the surrounding terrain leads the group up to the canyon entry point. The trail passes through forest cover and offers views across the volcanic landscape before the descent begins.
The group enters the watercourse and begins navigating the initial canyon sections, which typically include scrambling, wading, and smaller jumps. Guides introduce techniques and assess conditions at each point before proceeding.
The heart of the route features natural water slides carved into rock, waterfall jumps into deep pools, and abseiling sections using the supplied rope and harness system. Each participant is guided and supported through technical passages.
Sections of the descent pass through the Laurisilva forest zone, where the canyon walls narrow and the forest canopy closes overhead. This stretch offers some of the most visually distinctive scenery on the route.
The group exits the canyon at the lower end of the route and returns to the meeting point. Equipment is collected, and guides provide a brief debrief before the activity concludes.
