Cristo Rei, Palmela, Setúbal, Arrábida and Sesimbra Private Tour
A full-day journey through medieval castles, a protected natural park and the Atlantic coastline south of Lisbon.
This Arrábida Natural Park private tour combines centuries of history with some of the most dramatic coastal scenery in Portugal, all in a single unhurried day designed for groups of up to eight people.
Starting at the iconic Cristo Rei monument, the route heads south toward the hilltop Castle of Palmela, where sweeping views stretch across the Sado estuary and the Tróia peninsula. The castle dates to Arab occupation around the ninth century, with traces of human activity reaching back to the Neolithic period.
From Palmela the tour moves into Setúbal, a working coastal city whose Mercado do Livramento is lined with hand-painted azulejo tiles and stalls offering fresh fish and regional produce. The city is widely regarded as one of the best places in Portugal to eat fried cuttlefish and shellfish.
The afternoon is spent inside Arrábida Natural Park, where limestone ridges drop sharply to the sea and the water turns a vivid turquoise at beaches such as Portinho da Arrábida. The day ends with a stop in Sesimbra, a fishing village sheltered beneath its own Moorish castle on the ridge above the bay.

Itinerary
The tour departs from the Cristo Rei monument on the south bank of the Tagus, offering an opening panorama of Lisbon before the route heads inland toward Palmela.
Set on a rocky peak, the Castle of Palmela dates to Arab occupation in the ninth century, though the site has been inhabited since the Neolithic period. From the ramparts, visitors look out over the Serra da Arrábida, the Sado estuary and the Tróia peninsula.
The route descends to Setúbal, where the Mercado do Livramento is decorated with traditional azulejo tiles and sells fresh fish and regional goods. The city is well known for its seafood gastronomy, particularly fried cuttlefish. Free time is available at the marina.
The drive through Arrábida Natural Park follows narrow scenic roads along limestone ridges above the Atlantic. The park protects a rare Mediterranean ecosystem and the views extend across turquoise coves including Portinho da Arrábida.
An optional stop at one of Portugal's oldest wineries allows guests to learn about the region's winemaking heritage and taste wines including the renowned Moscatel de Setúbal.
The day concludes in Sesimbra, where a Moorish castle stands on the ridge above the bay. The village retains a working fishing-port character and provides a calm setting to close the tour.
