Itinerary
Your journey begins with a scenic drive westward along the northern coast of Crete toward the Kolimbari peninsula. The route offers views of the Bay of Chania before reaching the first stop.
Founded in the 17th century at the western edge of the Bay of Chania, this fortified monastery played a recurring role in Cretan resistance. The complex includes the Church of the Virgin Hodhegetria, monk cells, a dining hall, cellars, and the Orthodox Academy of Crete.
Adjacent to the monastery, this monument honours the cadets who refused the capitulation order of April 23, 1941, and came to this site to continue resistance during the Battle of Crete. Admission is free, and the viewpoint across Kolimbari to Maleme is exceptional.
You arrive at the five-cove beach of Falasarna, where two hours are available for swimming, relaxing, or exploring the nearby ruins of the ancient Hellenistic city and its unique enclosed harbour, destroyed by Rome in 69 BC.
The day concludes with a sit-down meal at a local tavern positioned above the bay, offering a panoramic perspective over the coastline you have just explored.
The return drive takes approximately one hour, arriving back at the starting point in the Chania area.
