Amazon River Boat Adventure from Manaus
Three days navigating the heart of the Amazon basin by riverboat, canoe, and jungle trail
This Amazon River boat adventure takes travelers from Manaus deep into the world's largest tropical rainforest, combining river navigation, wildlife encounters, and cultural immersion across three days and two nights aboard a traditional riverboat.
The journey begins at the iconic Meeting of the Waters, where the dark Rio Negro and the pale Solimoes flow side by side without mixing, forming the Amazon River. From there, the route leads through flooded forests, indigenous villages, and remote riverbanks that few visitors ever reach.
Nights are spent in hammocks aboard the boat, a traditional and comfortable way to travel the Amazon that connects passengers directly to the rhythm of the river. The moderate difficulty level makes this accessible to most travelers with reasonable fitness, though a willingness to embrace the unexpected is essential.
The Anavilhanas Archipelago, one of the largest river archipelagos on Earth, forms the backdrop for the final day, offering canoe exploration through flooded igapo forests before the return journey to Manaus.
Tour Highlights
Witness the Meeting of the Waters where the Rio Negro and Solimoes converge to form the Amazon River.

Itinerary
The journey begins with a visit to the Meeting of the Waters, followed by January Lake where floating houses sit in the floodplain. Canoe rides through igapo forests offer encounters with monkeys, sloths, anacondas, and birds before an afternoon piranha fishing session.
After sunset, the night tour begins with a guided alligator capture activity using flashlights. The guide explains the ecology of the species before returning each animal to the river. Dinner and overnight are spent in hammocks aboard the boat.
An early wake-up at 5:30 AM allows passengers to observe the forest birds and riverside flora at first light. After breakfast, the group visits Paraiso village to learn about rubber extraction from rubber trees, a practice central to Amazonian history.
The afternoon includes a beach stop for swimming, a visit to an indigenous community with optional participation in rituals and folk dancing, and an evening jungle camp where travelers assemble a campfire and share an improvised barbecue dinner.
The final day opens at 6:00 AM with a jungle trail walk before returning to the boat for breakfast. The group then navigates into the Anavilhanas Archipelago to explore its igapo channels by canoe.
During the return crossing of the Rio Negro, an optional interaction with Tucuxi river dolphins may be available. The boat arrives back in Manaus at approximately 18:00.
All three nights are spent in hammocks inside the riverboat, a traditional mode of travel on the Amazon used by local communities and long-distance river passengers alike. This setup provides an authentic connection to the environment throughout the journey.
