Itinerary Overview
Arrive at Colombo International Airport and transfer to your hotel. In the afternoon, explore the city's Pettah bazaar, the Gangarama Buddhist temple, the Sri Kailawasanathan Swami Devasthanam Kovil Hindu temple, and the prestigious Cinnamon Gardens neighbourhood where Independence Hall and the National Museum are located.
Drive north to visit the Golden Temple of Dambulla, a 2,000-year-old pilgrimage site and UNESCO World Heritage Site set inside five mountain caves. The following morning, climb the Sigiriya rock fortress before spending the afternoon among the ruins of the ancient city of Polonnaruwa, including the rock-carved Gal Viharaya Buddha statues and the remains of King Parakramabahu's royal palace.
Stop at Matale's spice and herb gardens before continuing to Kandy to visit the Peradeniya Royal Botanical Gardens.
