The New Old Town
The Römer, the historical town hall, emphasises Frankfurt's importance as a political centre. The New Old Town between the Römer and the Emperors' Cathedral was completed in 2018; of its 35 houses, 15 are faithful reconstructions. On 18 May 1848, the first all-German parliament convened at the city's St Paul's Church.

The Museum Embankment
The Städel Museum, at the heart of the museum mile, holds masterpieces spanning nine centuries of European art. The embankment also includes the German Film Museum, the Museum of Architecture and the Schirn Kunsthalle art gallery, among some 60 other institutions.

On the River Main, the city combines historical timber-frame architecture with modern skyscrapers, and its apple wine pubs offer a slice of the Frankfurt way of life.
