          More to know about Berlengas

Berlengas is a small coastal village in the Leiria region of western Portugal. Located near the Atlantic Ocean, it serves as the gateway to the Berlengas Islands, a protected archipelago known for its dramatic granite cliffs and marine biodiversity. Visitors typically take boat trips to explore sea caves, swim in clear waters, and visit the 17th-century Farol da Berlenga lighthouse.
The Berlengas archipelago is located in the Atlantic Ocean approximately 12 kilometres west of Peniche, on Portugal's Silver Coast (Costa de Prata), within the Centro region of mainland Portugal. Berlenga Grande is the largest and only accessible island and has been designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 2011. The island and surrounding marine area are managed as a protected nature reserve under Portuguese environmental law, with strict visitor limits and conservation regulations enforced seasonally. Editorial content is compiled from publicly available geographic, ecological, and travel sources and verified against current ferry operator and reserve management information.
