This tour operates from Akureyri Port in northern Iceland, the country's second-largest urban centre and a primary docking point for Arctic and North Atlantic cruise itineraries. The route heads east along Route 1 into the Lake Myvatn region, situated approximately 100 kilometres from Akureyri in the Norðurland eystra constituency. Lake Myvatn itself lies within the Northern Volcanic Zone, where the Mid-Atlantic Ridge surfaces and shapes the terrain through ongoing tectonic and geothermal activity. Key stops include Godafoss waterfall on the Skjalfandafljot river, the Dimmuborgir lava field, the Námafjall ridge and Hverir geothermal area near the Krafla volcanic system, and the Myvatn Nature Baths. The region is recognised as one of Iceland's most geologically significant and visually distinctive landscapes, attracting both independent travellers and cruise passengers throughout the summer season.
