This tour operates from Florence, the regional capital of Tuscany in central Italy, and travels through the Sienese countryside visiting three historically significant destinations. San Gimignano is located in the province of Siena, approximately 56 km south of Florence, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its 14 surviving medieval towers. Volterra, also in the province of Siena, sits at an elevation of roughly 531 meters on a ridge between the Era and Cecina river valleys, and is known for its Etruscan heritage and alabaster craftsmanship tradition. San Galgano Abbey is a 13th-century Cistercian monastery located near Chiusdino in the province of Siena, approximately 35 km southwest of Siena itself. The entire route traverses the landscape of the Val d'Elsa, Colline Metallifere, and Merse Valley, areas characterized by cypress-lined roads, olive groves, and hilltop towns that represent the most recognizable image of rural Tuscany.
