Highlights of Ephesus, Priene, Miletus and Didyma
Walk the marble streets of antiquity across two of Turkey's most storied ancient landscapes.
This 2-day small-group tour of Ephesus from Izmir brings together the legendary ruins of Ephesus with the lesser-visited but equally compelling ancient cities of Priene, Miletus, and Didyma. Kept intentionally small, the group format allows for a more attentive and personalized experience guided by a knowledgeable local expert.
On the first day, the route leads through one of the best-preserved ancient cities in the Mediterranean world. Visitors walk along marble-paved streets past the Celsus Library, the Grand Theater, the Temple of Hadrian, and a series of monumental fountains and civic buildings that illustrate the scale of Roman urban ambition. The day also includes a visit to the House of Virgin Mary, a pilgrimage site with deep roots in early Christian tradition, and concludes at the Temple of Artemis, one of the original Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
The second day shifts focus to three ancient Ionian cities spread across the Meander Valley. Priene offers a hillside setting with a well-preserved temple dedicated to Athena, while Miletus presents one of antiquity's great commercial centers, complete with a Roman theater and the Faustina Baths. Didyma crowns the journey with the Temple of Apollo, the largest Ionic temple ever constructed, where a colossal Medusa head still rests on the ground where it fell centuries ago.
Throughout both days, the small-group format ensures direct access to the guide and a pace suited to genuine exploration rather than a rushed checklist. Lunch is included on both days, and a private tour option is available for families or those seeking an even more tailored experience.

Itinerary
The tour begins above Ephesus at the House of Virgin Mary, believed to be where Mary spent her final years after arriving with the apostle St. John following the crucifixion. The site holds significance for both Christian pilgrims and historians of the early church.
A guided walk through Ephesus covers the State Agora, Odeon, Memmius Monument, Temple of Domitian, Curetes Street, Trajan Fountain, Baths of Scholastica, Temple of Hadrian, Latrina, Celsus Library, the Gate of Mithridates and Mazeus, the Commercial Agora, and the Grand Theater. The theater, originally built in the 3rd century BC and expanded by Rome to seat 24,000, remains one of the most impressive structures in the ancient Mediterranean.
The day concludes at the Temple of Artemis, dedicated to the Greek goddess of fertility and constructed in the 3rd century BC. Listed by the poet Antipater as one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World due to its scale and its distinction as the first major temple built entirely of marble, the site offers important historical context before the return to Izmir.
After breakfast and hotel pickup, the group travels to Priene, an ancient Greek city set above the Meander Valley with a prominent temple of Athena still partially standing. The route continues to Miletus, a major Ionian city active from 700 BC to 700 AD, where the Roman Theater and the Faustina Baths are the primary points of interest.
The final stop is Didyma and its Temple of Apollo, the largest Ionic temple constructed in the ancient world and a center of oracular religious practice. A fallen Medusa head from the original frieze remains on site. The group then returns to Izmir to conclude the tour.
