Drysuit Snorkeling in Silfra with Underwater Photos – From Reykjavik
Float through crystal-clear glacial waters in one of the world's most remarkable freshwater fissures.
Drysuit snorkeling in Silfra places you directly between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates, drifting through a fissure of glacially filtered water so transparent it creates a sensation of weightlessness. Located within the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Thingvellir National Park, just 50 km from Reykjavik, Silfra is ranked among the top snorkeling and dive sites on the planet. No prior diving experience or certification is required to join this tour.
The water in Silfra originates from the Langjokull glacier, filtering through porous lava rock for decades before emerging at almost perfect clarity, with visibility stretching to 100 meters or more. The fissure reaches depths of 60 to 63 meters, and the water temperature hovers just above freezing year-round, making proper thermal protection essential for every participant.
The drysuit provides a sealed layer of insulating fabric that keeps you dry throughout the experience, offering reliable protection from the cold. Your certified guide will brief you thoroughly before entry, ensuring you are comfortable with your equipment and the unique conditions of the fissure before you begin your float.
Adventure Vikings includes underwater photography on this tour, capturing your experience in the vivid blue and teal hues that define Silfra's visual character. These images serve as a lasting record of a genuinely rare natural encounter that few travelers have the opportunity to experience firsthand.

What to Expect
The tour departs from a central meeting point in Reykjavik. The drive to Thingvellir National Park takes approximately 45 minutes along well-maintained roads through the Icelandic countryside.
On arrival at the Silfra site, your guide will fit you with a drysuit, hood, gloves, fins, mask, and snorkel. The briefing covers safety procedures and technique before entering the water.
You enter the water at the designated point and float through the distinct sections of Silfra: the Hall, the Cathedral, and the Lagoon. Your guide leads the group and captures underwater photos throughout.
After exiting the water, you remove your equipment with the help of guides and have time to warm up. Hot chocolate and biscuits are typically provided to help you recover from the cold.
