Private Reykjavík City Tour
Discover the northernmost capital in the world at your own pace, in comfort and privacy.
This private Reykjavík city tour offers a flexible, comfortable way to explore Iceland's vibrant capital, with a dedicated driver and a smaller vehicle tailored to your schedule. You choose how long you linger at each landmark, making for a genuinely personal experience.
Reykjavík sits at 66° North, earning its place as the northernmost sovereign capital in the world. Around two thirds of Iceland's entire population live in or around the city, which has grown from just six thousand residents in 1900 to well over two hundred thousand today.
The tour covers the city's most celebrated landmarks, including Hallgrímskirkja, Harpa Concert Hall, Perlan, and the Sun Voyager sculpture. Beyond the core route, your driver can help you combine the outing with other activities such as whale watching, museum visits, horse riding, or a trip to the Blue Lagoon.
Travelling privately means no fixed stops and no shared coach. If you want to pause for refreshments, photograph a street corner, or simply take in the harbour view, the itinerary bends to suit you rather than the other way around.
Tour Highlights
Stand before Hallgrímskirkja, Iceland's largest Lutheran church, whose tower was inspired by basalt columns and erupting geysers.

Ascend to the Perlan observation deck for a panoramic view of the entire city and surrounding landscape.
Photograph the Sun Voyager sculpture on the northern coastline, a dreamlike ode to exploration and the open sea.
Travel in a smaller private vehicle with a dedicated driver, giving you full flexibility over pace and stops.
Option to combine with add-on experiences including whale watching, horse riding, or the Icelandic Lava Show.
Itinerary
Designed by Iceland's first state architect Guðjón Samúelsson and constructed between 1944 and 1982, this Lutheran church dominates the city skyline. Its tower references the basalt columns found at Reynisfjara Black Beach and the form of an erupting geyser. In front of the church stands a statue of Leifur Eriksson, a gift from the United States commemorating his voyage to North America around the year 1000.
Located on the harbour front, Harpa is the home of the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra and the Icelandic Opera. The building was designed by Ólafur Elíasson, and its glass dome references Icelandic natural phenomena including the Northern Lights and volcanic activity. Each panel of the facade incorporates colour-lit glass plates capable of producing dynamic light displays on the exterior.
Built atop the city's former hot water storage tanks, Perlan resembles a futuristic dome rising above the surrounding tree line. An observation deck offers views across Reykjavík and beyond, while the Wonders of Iceland exhibition inside provides an accessible overview of the country's natural environment. A restaurant with a revolving floor rounds out the experience for visitors who choose to dine.
This steel sculpture by Jón Gunnar Árnason stands on the northern coastline of Reykjavík and is one of the city's most photographed landmarks. Its skeletal, ship-like form draws on Viking imagery and runic lines, though the artist described it as a dreamboat and an ode to the sun. The work symbolises the promise of undiscovered territory, hope, progress, and freedom.
