Diamond Circle Tour: North Iceland's Most Spectacular Landscapes
A private full-day circuit through waterfalls, canyons, geothermal fields, and volcanic craters in the heart of Arctic Iceland.
The Diamond Circle Tour covers a 250-kilometre route through North Iceland, connecting an extraordinary sequence of geological and natural landmarks in a single private day trip. From the historic Goðafoss waterfall to the thundering Dettifoss and the surreal mud pits of Hverir, this circuit delivers one of the most diverse natural experiences available in Iceland. The journey is guided by an expert from the Fox Adventure team who provides context, photography tips, and local knowledge throughout.
The route begins along Eyjafjörður, Iceland's longest fjord, before looping through landscapes shaped by glacial erosion, volcanic eruptions, and centuries of geological activity. Each stop on the circuit is chosen for its visual impact and scientific significance, offering travellers a grounded understanding of how Iceland's terrain was formed. The moderate difficulty level makes it accessible to most adults, though a short hike of around ten minutes each way is required to reach Dettifoss.
Húsavík, a small fishing town made internationally recognisable by the film Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga, provides a cultural counterpoint to the natural wonders on the route. The Tjörnes Peninsula adds a seasonal wildlife dimension, with puffin sightings possible from mid-June to early September. The day concludes with a return journey along Lake Mývatn, offering a calm and scenic close to an eventful circuit.
