Pompeii and Vesuvius from Naples
Walk through a city frozen in time, then stand at the edge of the volcano that buried it.
This full-day tour takes you to two of southern Italy's most compelling destinations: the UNESCO-listed ruins of Pompeii from Naples and the summit crater of Mount Vesuvius, the only active volcano on the European mainland.
Pompeii was engulfed by volcanic ash in 79 AD, and the layers that destroyed it also preserved it with extraordinary detail. Walking its ancient streets today means encountering intact frescoes, original mosaic floors, bath houses, bakeries, and domestic spaces that have survived nearly two millennia.
After exploring the archaeological site at your own pace, the tour continues uphill to Mount Vesuvius National Park, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. A short trail from the parking area leads to the rim of the Gran Cono crater, offering a direct view into the geological force that shaped this entire region.
The day also includes a stop at a traditional cameos and coral workshop, where craftspeople demonstrate the techniques behind one of Naples' oldest decorative arts. Cameos, typically carved from layered shells, have been produced in this region for centuries and remain a distinctive local tradition.

Itinerary
The tour departs from the Pic Nic bar kiosk at Molo Beverello, the main ferry terminal in Naples. The meeting point is straightforward to locate and well connected to the city centre.
On arrival in Pompeii, the group assistant will be available throughout the visit while you explore the ruins independently. Allow approximately two hours to cover the main areas of the site, including residential quarters, public baths, the forum, and preserved frescoes.
The itinerary includes a stop at a traditional artisan workshop specialising in cameos and coral carving. The visit provides context for one of Naples' most historically significant decorative crafts, with no obligation to purchase.
A break for lunch is built into the schedule. Meals are at your own expense and there are several options available near the archaeological site entrance.
The vehicle ascends to approximately 1,000 metres, from where a 20-minute walk leads to the crater rim. The path offers clear views into the volcanic caldera and across the Bay of Naples on clear days.
After the crater visit, the group returns by vehicle to the original departure point at Naples port. Total tour duration is approximately eight hours.
