Summit La Om Peak: Guided Hike to the Highest Point in Piatra Craiului (2238 m)
A full-day ascent through gorges, meadows, and ridgelines to the rooftop of one of Romania's most dramatic mountain ranges.
This guided day hike to Piatra Craiului highest peak takes you from Brasov through the iconic Zarnesti Gorge, across alpine meadows, and along the exposed main ridge to La Om summit at 2238 meters. A certified mountain guide leads the way, adjusting the route to conditions and group ability.
Piatra Craiului is a limestone ridge of exceptional character, renowned among Romanian hikers for its narrow crest, karst formations, and far-reaching panoramas toward Bucegi, Fagaras, and the Transylvanian plateau. Few one-day outings in the Carpathians offer a comparable combination of geological interest and summit reward.
The route passes through Zarnesti Gorge, a protected natural corridor flanked by vertical limestone walls, before opening onto La Table meadow. From the Grind refuge at 1600 meters, the terrain becomes more demanding as the trail follows the primary ridge toward the summit. The descent retraces to Grind before the return transfer to Brasov.
This experience is rated moderate to challenging and is suited to hikers with basic mountain fitness. Proper footwear and layered clothing are essential given the exposed ridge conditions above the treeline.
