Tour Itinerary
Begin at the iconic headland where the Moselle meets the Rhine. The national monument to German unity stands here, alongside the Basilica of St. Kastor, built between 817 and 836 AD and positioned at the very tip of this historic spit of land.
Stroll along the old town promenade with its views over both rivers, then discover the large column fountain that narrates 2,000 years of Koblenz history. This square draws visitors arriving by river cruise as well as overland travelers.
Pass the Electoral Palace, former residence of the last Archbishop-Elector of Trier, and continue to the distinctive level house built around 1609. Originally a Rhine crane, it later served as a gauge station and was expanded for the 2011 Federal Horticultural Show.
Explore the ensemble of four historic towers at the crossing of Am Plan, then visit Münzplatz square, whose name recalls the former electoral mint. The nearby town hall occupies a former Jesuit college, and St. Florin's Church — built around 1100 — anchors this part of the old town.
Climb to the highest point of the Altstadt where the Church of Our Lady shapes the city's skyline together with St. Kastor and St. Florinus. Nearby, the Old Castle dates to the 13th century and now houses the city archive.
Conclude the route at the 14th-century stone bridge over the Moselle, the oldest surviving bridge in the city, which connects the Altstadt with the Lützel district. This Romanesque structure has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2002.
