Blue Ice Cave, South Coast, Golden Circle & Snaefellsnes by Minibus
From volcanic peninsulas to glacial lagoons — four days across Iceland's most iconic landscapes
This 4-day Iceland winter minibus tour brings together the country's most celebrated natural wonders — the Snaefellsnes Peninsula, the Golden Circle, the South Coast, and the ancient ice caves of Vatnajokull — in a single, carefully paced small-group journey.
Each day is structured around a distinct region, allowing travelers to absorb the contrast between geothermal valleys, black sand beaches, thundering waterfalls, and the vast white silence of glacier ice without feeling rushed.
Experienced guides accompany the group throughout, providing context on the geology, history, and ecology of each site visited. Group sizes are kept small to ensure a more personal experience on the road and at each stop.
The winter setting adds a particular quality to this itinerary: low-angle light over glacier lagoons, the possibility of northern lights in the evenings, and the rare opportunity to enter blue ice caves that form only during the colder months.
Tour Highlights
Walk inside a blue ice cave beneath Vatnajokull, Europe's largest glacier, guided by certified glacier experts.
Stand on Reynisfjara black sand beach and observe the dramatic basalt columns carved by Atlantic surf.
Explore Snaefellsnes Peninsula, including the volcanic glacier Snaefellsjokull and the iconic Kirkjufell Mountain.
Visit Gullfoss, Geysir, Seljalandsfoss, Skogafoss, and the hidden canyon waterfall Gljufrabui on the Golden Circle and South Coast.
Walk Diamond Beach where glacier icebergs wash ashore on black sand and catch sunlight like scattered gems.
Discover Thingvellir National Park, where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates visibly diverge.
Look for the northern lights during evening hours in areas with minimal light pollution across the Icelandic countryside.
Day-by-Day Itinerary
The first day covers the Snaefellsnes Peninsula, a region of glacial mountains, mossy lava fields, and coastal cliffs. Stops include the distinctive Kirkjufell Mountain, volcanic craters, and the glacier-capped stratovolcano Snaefellsjokull, the legendary starting point in Jules Verne's Journey to the Center of the Earth.
Day two follows the Golden Circle route, visiting Thingvellir National Park, the erupting Geysir geothermal area, and the double-cascade waterfall Gullfoss. The itinerary also includes the sapphire-blue Bruarfoss waterfall, a lesser-visited but visually striking site along the route.
Day three moves along the South Coast, beginning at Seljalandsfoss where visitors can walk behind the curtain of falling water. The route continues to the hidden gorge waterfall Gljufrabui, the grand Skogafoss, and the basalt-columned black sand beach of Reynisfjara.
The final day centers on Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon, where icebergs calved from Breidamerkurjokull drift through a 200-meter-deep glacial lake. After exploring Diamond Beach across the road, the group meets glacier guides, gears up with crampons and ice axes, and hikes to the blue ice caves inside an outlet glacier of Vatnajokull.
