Ancient Rome Revealed: From the Forum to the Colosseum
Walk the Via Sacra, climb Palatine Hill, and stand before the Colosseum on a 3-hour journey through the heart of Roman civilization.
This guided tour of ancient Rome traces a continuous arc of history from the Renaissance grandeur of Piazza del Campidoglio to the monumental scale of the Colosseum, linking landmarks that shaped an empire and still define a city. An expert guide leads the route, providing historical context that transforms ruins into living narratives. The difficulty level is easy, making this experience accessible to a wide range of visitors.
The walk moves through some of the most densely layered ground in the world, where Republican-era temples, Imperial forums, and triumphal arches stand within metres of one another. Along the Via Sacra, the sacred road of ancient Rome used for more than 2,500 years, the sequence of monuments unfolds in chronological order, allowing visitors to read the ambitions of successive emperors in stone and marble. An underground passage connects the forum complexes, adding a dimension that surface-level visits rarely offer.
Palatine Hill provides an elevated perspective over the Forum and the city beyond, while the ruins of the Imperial Palaces built by Augustus and his successors underline just how central this hill was to Roman political life. The tour concludes at the Colosseum, the largest amphitheatre ever built, where the guide recounts the engineering decisions, the spectacles, and the human stories that made this structure the defining symbol of Roman power. The Colosseum was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1990 and named one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in 2007.

Tour Itinerary
The tour opens on the Capitoline Hill, where Michelangelo designed a unified square for Pope Paul III in the 16th century. The Cordonata staircase and the central position of the equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius set the scene for the panoramic view over the Roman Forum below.
Commissioned with the spoils of the Dacian Wars and designed by the architect Apollodorus of Damascus, Trajan's Forum was the most complex of the Imperial forums. The column at its centre stands 30 metres tall, its spiral frieze recording approximately 2,500 figures across the two military campaigns of 101–106 AD.
An underground passage leads into the Forum of Julius Caesar, after which the route opens onto the broader Roman Forum, where the Temple of Saturn, the Curia, and the arches of Titus and Septimius Severus mark the ceremonial and political core of Republican and Imperial Rome.
The group walks along the Via Sacra before ascending Palatine Hill, the centremost of the Seven Hills of Rome and the site of Augustus's first Imperial residence. Sweeping views over the Forum and the Circus Maximus illustrate the hill's strategic and symbolic importance.
Situated between Palatine Hill and the Colosseum, the Arch of Constantine was dedicated in 315 AD and stands 21 metres high. Its sculptural decoration incorporates reliefs taken from earlier monuments to Trajan, Hadrian, and Marcus Aurelius.
The tour concludes with a guided examination of the best-preserved sections of the Flavian Amphitheatre, the largest amphitheatre ever constructed. The guide covers the structure's engineering, the range of spectacles it hosted, and its designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.
