Itinerary
Your guide meets you at your Cairo hotel and escorts you to the National Museum of Egyptian Islamic Civilization. The museum's collection covers Islamic art, manuscripts, textiles, and the celebrated Royal Mummies Hall.
You proceed to the square at the foot of the Citadel to visit the fourteenth-century Sultan Hassan School, an extraordinary example of Mamluk religious architecture. Directly opposite stands Al-Rifa'i Mosque, completed in the early twentieth century and serving as the burial place of Egypt's royal family.
Perched on Mokattam Hill, the Citadel offers some of the finest views available anywhere in Cairo. Inside its walls you will find the Mosque of Muhammad Ali as well as several museums documenting Egyptian military and police history.
The tour continues into the old city, pausing at Bab Zuwayla, the imposing Fatimid gate whose twin minarets once marked the southern boundary of medieval Cairo. The surrounding Ghorya district retains much of its traditional commercial character.
A stop for lunch at a nearby local restaurant gives you time to rest and sample traditional Egyptian dishes before the afternoon continues.
The final stop is Khan El Khalili, Cairo's most famous bazaar, where merchants have traded gold, silver, spices, leather, and antiques for more than six centuries. After exploring at your own pace, you are transferred back to your hotel.
