Delphi Day Trip from Athens: Oracle, Sanctuary and Museum
Journey to the navel of the ancient world and discover the legendary oracle of Apollo on the slopes of Mount Parnassus.
The Delphi Day Trip from Athens brings you face to face with one of antiquity's most sacred and influential sites, a place where the ancient Greeks believed the world began and where emperors sought divine guidance from the oracle of Apollo.
Departing from central Athens, your air-conditioned coach follows the National Highway through Central Greece, passing through the historic hilly region of Boeotia and the ancient city-state of Thebes before reaching the dramatic landscape at the foot of Mount Parnassus. A brief stop at Livadeia breaks up the two-hour journey.
As the terrain shifts from dry lowland plains to dense green mountain scenery, Delphi gradually reveals itself beneath two towering rock formations known as the Phaedriades. The site served as the most important pilgrimage destination in the ancient Greek world for nearly a millennium.
The day concludes with a stop in Arachova, a picturesque mountain town clinging to the southern slopes of Parnassus, where you can photograph the traditional stone architecture before the return journey to Athens.
