Itinerary Overview
Arrive in Zagreb and meet your local guide for a walk through the Old Town, St. Mark's Cathedral, the main squares and the underground wartime tunnels beneath the city. The day closes with dinner at a local restaurant and free time to explore independently.
Travel to the baroque city of Varazdin for a walk through its castle and central square, then visit a small winery in the Zagorje region for local wines and traditional food specialties. The day finishes at Vuglec Breg winery with a cellar tour, a tasting of their finest bottles and dinner on the estate.
Drive to the Adriatic coast and spend time in Opatija, the grand Austro-Hungarian resort town, before heading inland to Hum, reputedly the world's smallest city, famous for its mistletoe brandy called Biska. Check into a boutique hotel in the medieval town of Svetvincenat for two nights.
Begin with a visit to a forest church adorned with late-Gothic frescoes, then spend the morning truffle hunting with the Karlic family and their dogs before cooking lunch together. The afternoon takes you through medieval Motovun and to the Tomaz winery for Istrian wines and olive oil, followed by a seafood dinner on the Lim Canal.
