Coptic Cairo, Muizz Street and Khan el-Khalili Bazaar Day Tour
A full-day journey through the living layers of Christian, Islamic and Jewish Cairo with an expert guide at your side.
This Coptic Cairo and Islamic Cairo day tour takes you beyond the standard sightseeing route and into the streets, quarters and monuments that shaped one of the world's oldest continuously inhabited cities. From ancient churches to medieval mosques and a centuries-old bazaar, every stop carries centuries of history.
The day begins in Old Cairo, a district long regarded as a place of spiritual importance. Here the Holy Family sought refuge, and the cave that sheltered them became the foundation on which the Church of Abu Serga was later built. The Fort of Babylon area draws pilgrims and history enthusiasts from across the globe, and its atmosphere of devotion is evident the moment you enter the district.
From Coptic Cairo the tour moves into the heart of Islamic Cairo, where Al-Muizz li-Din Allah Street preserves an extraordinary concentration of medieval architecture on both sides. The route continues through El Darb El Asfar, one of the oldest quarters in the city, and the Darb al-Ahmar area, passing markets that still practise traditional crafts. The day concludes at Khan el-Khalili, the historic bazaar district where artisans and traders have gathered for more than six centuries.
Every element of the tour — private air-conditioned transport, entry fees, a qualified Egyptologist guide, lunch, bottled water and all taxes — is included, so the day requires no logistical planning on your part beyond being ready for pickup at your accommodation.

Your guide and driver collect you directly from your Cairo hotel. The air-conditioned vehicle heads south toward the ancient district of Old Cairo, also known as Coptic Cairo, situated around the Fort of Babylon.
Explore the Church of Abu Serga (St Sergius), built above the cave associated with the Holy Family's stay in Egypt, followed by the Church of St Barbara and the Hanging Church, one of the earliest Christian structures in the country. The visit also includes the Ben Ezra Synagogue, dating to the ninth century and notable for the Cairo Geniza documents discovered within its walls.
Transfer to Islamic Cairo and walk Al-Muizz li-Din Allah Street from the northern gates of Bab el-Futuh and Bab el-Nasr southward through El Darb El Asfar. Enter Bayt El Sehaymi, a preserved 17th-century merchant's house that offers a rare view of how Cairo's elite once lived. The route continues along Darb al-Ahmar Street, past the Saddlemakers Market on Suq al-Selah Street, before returning to Al-Muizz Street heading south toward Bab Zuweila.
Spend time in one of the oldest and most extensive bazaar districts in the Arab world. The covered markets here trade in brassware, copper goods, perfumes, leatherwork, silver, gold and antiques. Your guide can help navigate the different specialist sections of the market.
