Le Castella Transparent Bottom Boat Tour in the Capo Rizzuto Marine Area
Explore Posidonia meadows, hidden coves, and the crystal waters of the Ionian from a unique glass-hull vessel
A transparent bottom boat tour in the Capo Rizzuto Marine Protected Area offers one of the most accessible ways to observe a thriving Mediterranean seabed without getting wet. Aboard a 20-metre vessel with a glass hull, passengers glide above Posidonia Oceanica meadows teeming with marine life, guided by an expert naturalist narrator.
Departing from Le Castella, the route heads directly into one of Italy's most significant marine reserves, where strict protections have allowed ecosystems to recover and flourish. The transparent floor transforms the boat deck into a living window, revealing sea grass prairies, darting fish, and the interplay of light through clear Ionian water.
The tour continues to Torre Vecchia, an evocative historic watchtower where passengers can slip into the sea for a refreshing swim. The final destination is Sovereto beach, widely known as the Pearl of the Ionian, where a seasonal snack of fresh fruit concludes the outing in a setting of unspoiled natural beauty.
This experience is rated easy and suits all ages, making it an ideal choice for families, couples, and anyone curious about Calabrian coastal heritage. No diving skills or prior experience are required.

Itinerary
The tour sets off from the harbour of Le Castella, a small coastal village dominated by a well-preserved Aragonese castle. The vessel navigates towards the boundaries of the Capo Rizzuto Marine Protected Area.
At selected points of interest within the protected area, the guide draws attention to the underwater landscape visible through the glass hull. Posidonia Oceanica meadows, sponges, and various fish species can be observed from the comfort of the deck.
The boat anchors near Torre Vecchia, allowing passengers to swim in calm, clear water beside the historic tower. This is an optional stop suited to all swimming abilities.
After the swim, the vessel continues along the coastline towards Sovereto, offering scenic views of the undeveloped Calabrian shore. The journey itself provides ample opportunity to appreciate the coastline from the sea.
Guests enjoy a complimentary refreshment of fresh fruit and snacks on the water in front of Sovereto beach. A final swim in the turquoise shallows rounds out the experience before the return journey begins.
