Canyoning Sima del Diablo: Natural Challenge Near Estepona
Descend waterfalls, ride natural slides, and discover the wild heart of the Genal Valley
Canyoning Sima del Diablo takes you through a spectacular gorge carved by the Zúa River, where natural rock slides and cascading waterfalls reward those willing to explore beyond the ordinary. Set in the lush Genal Valley of the Serranía de Ronda, this route is tailored for beginners yet genuinely engaging for active travellers of all backgrounds.
The canyon winds through what locals call the Mediterranean Jungle — a dense, green corridor of vegetation and sculpted limestone that feels worlds apart from the coastal resorts nearby. The highlight of the descent is the Salto del Diablo, a 12-meter waterfall rappel that combines technical skill and pure adrenaline in equal measure.
No previous canyoning experience is required to join this activity. Qualified guides manage the safety setup at every obstacle, from abseils to water slides, so participants can focus on the experience itself. Physical fitness at a moderate level is sufficient to complete the route comfortably.
The town of Juzcar, famous for its striking blue-painted buildings, serves as the base for this adventure. The surrounding Genal Valley is one of the most ecologically rich and least-visited corners of Andalusia, offering a genuine sense of discovery alongside the technical challenges of the canyon.
