Buggy Adventure on Mount Pico
Three hours of volcanic terrain, forest trails, and Atlantic horizons from behind the wheel of a buggy.
This buggy tour on Mount Pico takes you through some of the most dramatic off-road landscapes in the Azores, combining rugged volcanic terrain with sweeping ocean views across a three-hour circuit. The route is rated easy, making it accessible to a wide range of participants while still delivering genuine excitement at every curve.
Pico Island is defined by contrasts: sharp lava fields meeting dense laurel forest, and the silence of highland trails giving way to distant wave sounds from the Atlantic below. The buggy format lets you engage directly with this landscape rather than observe it through a window.
A midpoint stop along the route offers time to step out, breathe in the volcanic air, and photograph the panorama before returning to the trail. The descent brings a different perspective on the same terrain, with light and shadow shifting as the morning or afternoon progresses.
Guides familiar with the mountain's paths lead the circuit, pointing out endemic plant species and geological features that define Pico's unique character within the Azorean archipelago.

Itinerary
Meet your guide at the designated starting point on Pico Island. Receive a safety briefing and vehicle orientation before setting off onto the first trail segment.
The route moves through alternating stretches of open lava fields and enclosed forest paths. Endemic vegetation lines the track as the terrain rises and shifts in texture.
Pause at a natural viewpoint roughly halfway through the circuit. This is the primary opportunity to step out of the buggy, take photographs, and take in the full Atlantic horizon.
The second half of the circuit follows the return path across varied terrain. Light conditions and perspectives differ on the descent, offering a distinct view of the same landscape.
