Small-Group Tour of the Amalfi Coast by Minivan with Light Lunch
Three iconic coastal villages, one unforgettable day along the most celebrated shoreline in Italy.
This Amalfi Coast small-group minivan tour takes you through Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello over eight hours, with a maximum of eight travelers sharing the experience. Departing from Sorrento, the route follows the legendary coastal road with its dramatic cliffs, turquoise water, and terraced villages. A light lunch and free exploration time at each stop are included in the day.
The Amalfi Coast is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most photographed stretches of coastline in Europe. Traveling by minivan keeps the group intimate and allows for a more relaxed pace compared to large coach tours, with easier access to narrow village lanes and scenic pullouts along the drive.
Each of the three destinations along the route offers a distinct character. Positano is known for its pastel-colored buildings cascading down to a pebble beach, while Amalfi carries centuries of maritime history within its cathedral squares and paper-making traditions. Ravello sits higher above the sea, quieter and cooler, famous for its gardens and panoramic terraces that have drawn artists and composers for generations.
The day is structured to give travelers a balance of guided context and personal freedom. At every stop, you have roughly one hour to walk at your own pace, photograph the scenery, visit a church or garden, or simply sit with a coffee and take in the view.
Tour Highlights
Travel the full length of the famous Amalfi Coast road aboard a comfortable, small-capacity minivan with scenic coastal views throughout the journey.
Photograph Positano from Spiaggia Grande, one of the most iconic coastal backdrops in southern Italy, with colorful buildings rising behind the beach.
Visit the Duomo di Sant'Andrea in Amalfi, a remarkable Arab-Norman cathedral that anchors the town's historic center with its elaborate cloister and grand staircase.
Explore Villa Rufolo in Ravello, a medieval estate with Moorish-influenced architecture and terraced gardens overlooking the sea, host to the annual Ravello Festival.
Take in the Terrace of Infinity at Villa Cimbrone in Ravello, widely regarded as one of the most spectacular panoramic viewpoints on the entire Amalfi Coast.
Enjoy a light lunch included in the tour and additional free time at each village to discover local cafes, artisan shops, and hidden side streets at your own pace.
Travel in a group of no more than eight people, ensuring a more personal experience and easier movement through the narrow lanes of each coastal village.
Itinerary
The tour begins in Sorrento, with hotel pickup available or a designated meeting point for those staying nearby. The minivan heads south along the SS163 coastal road, offering sweeping views of the Gulf of Salerno as it winds toward the first stop.
Positano is the first village on the route, characterized by its steep streets, ceramic-tiled church dome of Santa Maria Assunta, and the wide pebble expanse of Spiaggia Grande. One hour of free time allows for a walk down to the beach, a visit to the church, or a browse through the local boutiques and lemon-scented ceramics shops.
Amalfi was one of the four great Maritime Republics of medieval Italy and remains proud of that heritage. Free time here allows a visit to Piazza del Duomo, the cathedral of Sant'Andrea with its striking facade and 62-step staircase, and optionally the Museo della Carta, which documents the town's centuries-old handmade paper tradition.
A light lunch is included during the day, giving travelers a chance to rest and refuel before continuing up to Ravello. The stop provides a taste of local cuisine in a coastal setting.
Ravello sits high above the coastline between Maiori and Amalfi, offering a noticeably quieter atmosphere than the villages below. Free time here covers Villa Rufolo and its famous gardens, the Ravello Cathedral dedicated to Saint Pantaleon, and for those with energy to spare, the Terrace of Infinity at Villa Cimbrone with its uninterrupted sea views.
The minivan returns along the coastal road to Sorrento, completing the full circuit of the day's route. Travelers are dropped at the original departure point or hotel, depending on the pickup arrangement.
