Built in the 15th century using stones from the collapsed Pharos of Alexandria, Qaitbay Citadel stands at the edge of the Eastern Harbour as one of Egypt's most recognizable coastal fortresses. Visitors can climb the ramparts for panoramic views of the Mediterranean and explore the historic chambers within. The site directly connects the ancient wonder of the Pharos to the medieval defensive architecture that replaced it.

Dating from the 2nd century AD, these rock-hewn catacombs descend through three tiers of tombs and represent the largest Roman burial site discovered in Egypt. The iconography throughout the complex is distinctly syncretic, depicting Egyptian deities such as Anubis wearing Roman legionary armor alongside Greek decorative motifs. The result is an archaeological record of Alexandria's multicultural identity that exists nowhere else.

This well-preserved structure is the only Roman-era amphitheater identified in Egypt and features thirteen tiers of marble seating that once accommodated large audiences for theatrical and musical performances. Adjacent excavations have uncovered Roman-era villas with intact mosaic floors, providing additional context for daily life in ancient Alexandria. The site offers a concrete connection between Egypt and the wider Roman world.

Inaugurated in 2002, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina is designed as a direct cultural successor to the ancient Library of Alexandria and occupies a striking circular structure on the Mediterranean waterfront. Inside, the main reading room's tiered, light-flooded design is one of the most photographed interiors in Egypt. The complex also houses museums dedicated to antiquities, manuscripts, and the history of science, as well as a planetarium and multiple exhibition galleries.
