Highlights of Kvarner to North Dalmatia Cruise
Eight days sailing through Croatia's most celebrated island chains, from Kvarner to the Kornati archipelago.
This Croatia island-hopping cruise traces a sweeping arc from the Gulf of Kvarner south into North Dalmatia, connecting storied towns, protected national parks, and secluded coves along one of Europe's most indented coastlines. The journey is rated very easy, making it accessible to a wide range of travellers. Every overnight is spent on board, keeping the pace relaxed and the scenery constantly changing.
The route threads through three distinct island groups: the lush, pine-covered Kvarner islands of Krk, Rab, and Lošinj; the dramatic limestone labyrinth of the Kornati National Park; and the historic port city of Zadar, once the Venetian capital of Dalmatia. Guided walks in Rab and Zadar offer structured introductions to medieval architecture and Roman remains, while daily swimming stops invite independent exploration of the Adriatic's clear waters.
Cres, the final island of the voyage, rounds out the experience with its olive groves, sheep pastures, and an unhurried old town before the fleet returns north along the Istrian coast to Rijeka. The itinerary balances organised excursions with open time, so passengers can follow a guide through a Roman forum one afternoon and find a quiet harbour-side table the next.
Departing and returning to Rijeka, the cruise requires no internal flights or long transfers. The standard boat category provides comfortable shared cabins and communal deck space suited to both solo travellers and small groups looking for a sociable but low-intensity voyage.
Tour Highlights
Zadar's walled old town holds a Roman Forum, the circular Church of Sveti Donat, and the wave-powered Sea Organs on the Riva promenade.
Kornati National Park encompasses 147 islands, islets, and reefs spread across 35 kilometres of Adriatic sea, forming the densest archipelago in the Mediterranean basin.
Lošinj island enjoys around 300 sunny days per year and is blanketed by pine forests and medicinal herbs, earning recognition as a destination for health tourism.
The medieval town of Rab sits on a narrow rocky promontory flanked by water, its four bell towers visible from the sea and its three parallel streets lined with cafés, boutiques, and churches.
Daily swimming stops in secluded Adriatic coves give passengers regular access to some of the clearest coastal waters in Europe throughout the voyage.
The waters around Lošinj are home to more than 220 registered dolphins tracked by the Adriatic Dolphin Project, offering a realistic chance of sightings from the deck.
The island of Cres presents a quieter face of Croatian island life, with extensive olive groves, sheep-dotted hillsides, and a compact old town that receives fewer visitors than its neighbours.
Itinerary Overview
Embarkation in Rijeka between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm, followed by a welcome drink and introductions. The vessel sails to a secluded cove for the first swim of the trip before mooring overnight in Krk town or the harbour of Punat.
After breakfast the boat heads for Rab, pausing at a romantic bay for swimming and sunbathing. A local guide leads an afternoon walking tour of Rab's old town, covering its three historic streets and four landmark bell towers before an overnight stay in port.
The cruise leaves Kvarner Bay and crosses into North Dalmatia, arriving in Zadar after a swimming break. A guided walk through the walled old town takes in the Roman Forum, the Church of Sveti Donat, the Cathedral of Sveta Stosija, and the Sea Organs on the Riva.
Departing Zadar, the vessel passes through the Proversa strait between Dugi Otok and Kornat, the gateway to Kornati National Park. After cruising the park's 147-island landscape, the boat anchors overnight at one of the surrounding islands such as Dugi Otok, Zverinac, Molat, or Olib.
The day's sail heads north toward Lošinj with a swimming stop along the way. Passengers may spot dolphins in waters where more than 220 individuals have been documented, and the evening is spent in the harbour of Mali Lošinj.
A short crossing reaches the neighbouring island of Cres, known for its olive groves and sheep farming. After the daily swimming break, the boat moors overnight in the picturesque town of Cres.
