Tour Calabria Mitologica: From Cosenza to the Costa dei Saraceni
Five days of mythology, archaeology, and mountain landscapes across the most authentic corners of Calabria.
This Calabria mythology and culture tour traces a route from the rugged highlands of the Sila National Park to the sun-drenched Ionian coastline, uncovering layers of Greek, Byzantine, Swabian, and Norman history along the way. Guests travel at an easy pace through cities, archaeological sites, and protected natural reserves that define the character of this southern Italian region.
Calabria is one of the least-visited regions of Italy, yet it holds a remarkable concentration of historical and natural heritage. The route connects Cosenza — a medieval city founded by the Bruzi in the fourth century BC — with Crotone, a former Magna Graecia colony, and Catanzaro, the regional capital, before reaching the Aragonese fortress at Le Castella overlooking the Ionian Sea.
The itinerary is designed for travellers who want structured guided visits without a rushed pace. Each day combines urban exploration with natural or archaeological sites, and local meals are integrated into the programme to provide an authentic taste of Calabrian culinary tradition.
The tour concludes in Catanzaro with visits to the Parco della Biodiversita Mediterranea and the MARCA museum, offering a contemporary counterpoint to the ancient sites encountered earlier in the journey.
