4-Day Oman Private Tour: Forts, Wadis, Desert and Mountains
From ancient turtle beaches to golden sand dunes, discover the full depth of Oman in four days.
This 4-day Oman private tour takes you through the country's most compelling landscapes, from the turquoise pools of Wadi Shab and the turtle nesting grounds at Ras Al Hadd to the towering dunes of Wahiba Sands and the historic ramparts of Nizwa Fort. Designed for independent travelers who want expert guidance without a group schedule, the itinerary moves at a pace that allows genuine exploration.
Each day covers a distinct region of Oman, connecting coastal scenery, mountain plateaus, desert camps and ancient villages in a logical route that minimizes backtracking. Accommodation shifts with the terrain, from a seaside hotel at Ras Al Hadd to a traditional Bedouin-style camp in the sands and a heritage property in or near Nizwa.
Omani cuisine, local craftsmanship and UNESCO-listed heritage sites are woven into every day of travel. This is not a surface-level highlights tour; it is a structured journey through a country whose identity is inseparable from its geography, its forts and its long-standing relationship with the sea.
Tour Highlights
Swim through the crystal-clear pools of Wadi Shab and discover a hidden cave waterfall at the end of a scenic canyon hike.
Spend a night at an Arabian desert camp in Wahiba Sands, with a 4x4 dune drive, sunset viewing and a campfire dinner included.

Ascend to Jebel Shams, Oman's highest peak and the rim of the Grand Canyon of Oman, for panoramic views across the Al Hajar range.
Discover UNESCO World Heritage sites including the beehive tombs of Zukait and the ancient falaj irrigation systems of Al Kattmyn.
Witness the green sea turtle breeding grounds at Ras Al Hadd and Ras Al Jinz, one of the most important nesting sites in the Indian Ocean region.
Itinerary
The day begins at the Bimmah Sinkhole, a large crater lake near the coast believed to have been formed by a meteor impact. From there the route continues to Fins Beach, a striking stretch of white pebble shore with vivid blue water, then into Wadi Shab for a 35-minute canyon hike leading to a series of warm swimming pools and a cave waterfall.
A stop at Tiwi village showcases lush wadi plantations before the drive to Ras Al Hadd, where the beaches serve as a breeding ground for green sea turtles. Overnight at Ras Al Hadd Hotel.
The morning begins in Sur, where old fortresses overlook the harbor and the famous Dhow Factory still produces traditional wooden vessels by hand. A visit to the Omani Ghazal Farm at Al Kamel follows before the route heads inland to Wadi Bani Khalid, one of the largest and most scenic wadis in the country, ideal for swimming and relaxing in the canyon.
The afternoon brings a drive into Wahiba Sands desert for a 4x4 dune experience, sunset from the top of a high dune, and a camp dinner around an open fire. Overnight at Arabian Oryx Camp.
The day opens at the Zukait Tower Tombs in Izki, a UNESCO-recognized Bronze Age landscape of beehive tombs set in a well-preserved ancient setting. The route then climbs to Jebel Akhdar, the Green Mountain, which reaches 2,980 meters and encompasses the Saiq Plateau at 2,000 meters above sea level.
Birkat Al Mouz, a village in ruins nestled into a mountain face, and the UNESCO-listed falaj irrigation channels of Al Kattmyn complete the historical thread of the day before arrival in Nizwa. Overnight at Al Diyar Hotel or Jebel Akhdar.
Nizwa Fort, the defining landmark of Oman's former capital, opens the final day with panoramic views over the ancient town and surrounding peaks. The adjoining souk offers Omani silverwork and handmade goods before the group travels to Al Hamra Old Village and the mountain settlement of Misfah Al Abryeen, home to some of the oldest preserved houses in the country.
The final stop is Jebel Shams, at 3,009 meters the highest point in Oman and the edge of its Grand Canyon. The tour concludes with a transfer back to Muscat for hotel drop-off or airport transfer.
