3-Day Thorsmork Hiking Tour

Three days of glaciers, valleys, and volcanic trails in Iceland's most legendary highland reserve

Nestled between two of Iceland's most iconic glaciers, Thorsmork hiking delivers a rare combination of lush birch forests, volcanic ridgelines, and sweeping glacial panoramas within a single highland destination. Named after the Norse god Thor, Thorsmork is one of the few places in Iceland where a sheltered microclimate nurtures vibrant greenery against a backdrop of raw volcanic terrain. This three-day guided journey takes hikers through its most rewarding trails at a moderate, accessible pace.

The valley sits between Tindfjallajokull to the north and Eyjafjallajokull to the south, creating a protected enclave where moss-covered slopes and birch woodland thrive. Glacial rivers carve through the lowlands while dramatic cliffs frame every ridgeline, giving each trail a distinct visual character. Accommodation at the Basar mountain hut provides a genuine highland base, placing hikers close to the trailheads and immersed in the atmosphere of the reserve. Each day builds in elevation and terrain variety, from the approachable ridges of Valahnukur to the demanding circuit of Tindfjallahringur. The tour concludes with a farewell ascent of Rettarfell before the highland bus returns to Reykjavik.

Thorsmork is also the celebrated endpoint of the Laugavegur trail, one of the world's most renowned long-distance routes.
